It seems as though drag racing in New Zealand is gaining momentum once again — well in the import scene anyway — and individuals such as Adam Plews of Speed Science are leading the way, with drag days such as his creation, the 2015 Speed Science Honda Drag Battle. The Honda-specific drag day, held November 7, was a huge success, Adam told us. “[There was] awesome weather with more than 70 cars racing. From people movers to 11-second monsters — everyone came out with the right attitude, had a blast and no doubt will be [doing the same] at the next Honda Drag Battle, April 9."

René Vermeer

Dutch, French, or just a Kiwi, René isn’t quite sure, but he does know he has a passion for Japanese vehicles like no other. A well-seasoned Gran Turismo player dating back to his single-digit days, René has a comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of performance vehicles and has owned more than 30 performance cars here in New Zealand, ranging from Nissans to Hondas. A lover of photography, you’ll find him either peeping under someone’s bonnet to snap a detailed shot, or on the side of the racetrack, perfecting his panning.
