Things have been crazy these last couple of weeks here in Sydney. There has been a continuous stream of events and night meets, and with all of these, hours upon hours have been spent editing images and writing stories. However, over the weekend of May 28–29, it’s about to get a whole lot crazier with the 2016 ST Hitec GT-R Festival going down.

With work being so busy over here, I am yet to make friends out and about as the only people I am currently interacting with seem to be involved in automotive media. This has proven to be extremely entertaining though, as we’ve all got similar goals and backgrounds.

The first person I met this side of the ditch was Kiwi Todd May. Now, Todd has owned GT-Rs in New Zealand, and a bunch of other vehicles, with one even appearing in NZ Performance Car. Todd runs a tight ship at the Motive DVD headquarters and I deal with him on a regular basis. Today's GT-R duties prior to the event meant that Andrew Hawkins’ R32 GT-R needed a decent detail and GT-R Festival decals applied.

And this is something that videographer Shane Pike apparently has mad skills in, as he took over and laid that decal on with precision. Shane hails from the Central Coast region near Sydney and specializes in producing video content. It’s been great having someone in a similar position to myself here in Sydney. Japanese imports have never really been Shane’s thing I must add — slammed utes and mini trucks are right up his alley, as well as his turbo Volvo wagon, which he has owned for eight years now, and he has huge plans for it.

I can’t wait to showcase the mental GT-Rs on display at the GT-R Festival. With more than 200 on display, I’m sure you’ll find it an entertaining read. Keep your eyes peeled next week for the biggest GT-R bomb being dropped that you’ve ever seen!

René Vermeer

Dutch, French, or just a Kiwi, René isn’t quite sure, but he does know he has a passion for Japanese vehicles like no other. A well-seasoned Gran Turismo player dating back to his single-digit days, René has a comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of performance vehicles and has owned more than 30 performance cars here in New Zealand, ranging from Nissans to Hondas. A lover of photography, you’ll find him either peeping under someone’s bonnet to snap a detailed shot, or on the side of the racetrack, perfecting his panning.
